At eight in the evening, still at her desk working, Governor Hassan clicked open the e-mail she liked least for the sixth time:
Following the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) denial of the state's appeal for a major disaster declaration for April flooding in the North Country, Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement:
"I'm incredibly disappointed that FEMA denied our request for emergency resources in response to the severe rain and flooding event in the North Country in April. This storm caused significant flooding, flash flooding and major road washouts that led to tremendous road and infrastructure damage in Carroll and Coos counties.
"In particular, the damaged bridge in Columbia and major culvert failure in Conway have put a significant strain on people, neighborhoods and businesses in those communities, and replacement projects could be financially devastating to the local governments. As Carroll and Coos counties still recover from April's flooding and two declared disasters in 2013, we will continue working with local officials to respond to this event and ensure the protection of property, public health and safety."
