Senator Shaheen and Representative Kuster today registered their opposition to renewed efforts to impose an internet sales tax. Kuster:
“I’m very disappointed some of my colleagues in the Senate have reintroduced this legislation, which would greatly hurt New Hampshire’s economy,” she said. “We should be taking steps to cut taxes for our small business owners in order to bolster their job creation efforts. This legislation instead would impose overly burdensome tax collection requirements on them, which would negatively impact their bottom line. I’ve long opposed this proposal, and I urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to stand up for our small businesses and defeat this legislation should it come to a vote.”
U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after a coalition of Senators reintroduced legislation that would impose a sales tax on online sales:
"This online sales tax proposal would hurt New Hampshire businesses by imposing new and unnecessary regulations and red tape. Forcing New Hampshire retailers to collect taxes for other states with no benefit to our state will result in serious economic consequences, and I will fight this proposal at every opportunity to protect New Hampshire businesses and make sure it isn’t signed into law.”
